Food & drink
No trip to Georgia is complete without sampling some of the country’s legendary food. Aside from khachapuri, a round cheese-stuffed bread that oozes and drips with heart-stopping goodness, try pkhali (vegetable pate) or lobio – a thick black bean stew. If you’re a wine lover, then Georgia is your place – it’s the country’s national drink and central to many local’s lives. But beware of the ‘shavi’ (black) wines, which may actually be straw-coloured! They’re very strong and can make you a little drunk very quickly. Don’t be alarmed though, Georgians are known for their hospitality and will often hand you free samples to help.
